Synopsis
CUBA MIA documents the story of a group of Cuban-born U.S. Jews who return on a tour to the Cuba of their childhood to find it both hauntingly familiar and radically changed. Revisiting their childhood homes, the local community center, and the old synagogue, they find the scenes that inhabit their memory to be unchanged since 1960. One man's former home is intact - even the furniture. The community center is still standing, and the local barber of 40 years ago is still cutting hair. But if the buildings still stand, it is from neglect more than preservation; if the barber still cuts hair, it is from necessity. It is through this confusing dual sense of loss and persistance, and through the inescapable filter of the Castro government, that the visitors must confront the tension between their American and Cuban identities as Jews.

Cuba Mia documenta la historia de un grupo judios estadounidenses nacidos en cuba que retornan en una jira a la cuba de su niñez para encontrala espeluzantemente familiar y radicalmente cambiado. Al revisitar las casas de su niñez, al centro communitario local, y a la viaja sinagoga, ellos encuentran que las escenas que habitan su memoria desde 1960 no ha cambiado. La casa de uno de los hombres esta intacta-hasta con los mismos muebles. El centro communitario todavia funciona, y el barbero local de hace cuarenta años todavia corta pelo. Pero si los edificios todavia estan intactos, es más bien por negligencia que por preservación; si el barbero todavia corta pelo, es por necesidad. Es por medio de esta confusion de doble sentido, la de la pérdida y persistencia, y por la inescapable filtro del gobierno castrista, que los visitants tienen que confrontar la tensión entre sus sus identidades de americanos y cubanos como judios.
