Welcome to LaCinemaFe
The 5th Annual LaCinemaFe Film Festival will feature the best of Latin filmmaking, including world, national and local premieres and a rich selection of shorts and documentaries. Countries represented in the 5th edition of festival include Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Spain, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Mexico, Italy, France and Spain.
Official Competition
The official competition showcases a wide range of films making their United States and/or New York debuts. Veteran filmmakers, as well as promising newcomers, will be on hand to enlighten the audiences on their visions and stories. This panel discussion, featuring such an eclectic group of cinematic views, truly exemplifies the festival's goals and inspirations of presenting Hispanic culture through film.
Documentary Competition
Each year the documentary program presents a selection of cutting-edge documentaries from all over Latin America. The aim of this competition is to provide an unique educational and cultural program about the reality of social issues for Latin Americans.
Short Competition
The 2008 short competition program will feature the works of future promising directors. Their vision, narrative style, and technical artistry demonstrate and prove that size matters.
Mexico in Focus
LaCinemaFe is honored to present the first annual showcase of "Mexico in Focus". In the first year of this special event, we are proud, to present and recognize a selection of feature films from the new Mexican cinema. The showcase will introduce a new generation and honor the accomplishments of established Mexican filmmakers.
Film for Children
This particular retrospective provides a forum for children and their families to celebrate the art of cinema and to identify the role that films play in children's artistic and educational lives. LaCinemaFe will offer a diverse lineup of films from Latin America, including animation, documentaries and fiction films. This presentation of remarkable works of children cinema, will provide a wide spectrum of visual experiences to help develop the audiences opinion about cinema.
Latin American Gay Cinema
The aim of this retrospective is to bring Latin American homosexuality closer to the general population through cinema. In addition, it provides an opportunity for the audience to enjoy the films produced by different cultures from within our diverse society. These films emphasize a new vision of the gay movement that exits in Latin America.
Without a doubt, the program of the 5th edition is not only diverse and impressive, but illustrates why LaCinemaFe is one the most important cultural institution for New Yorkers who love films.
